Mint Mobile Vs. Google Fi: Which one Should you Choose?

Recently, there has been a steep rise in the number of people using MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator) carriers for accessing the internet. If you are a starter and don’t know anything about MVNO, don’t worry. A mobile Virtual network operator or MVNO is a wireless service that is very similar to a cellular service provider like Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T.

The difference here is that MVNO service provider does not have dedicated network infrastructures like Verizon and other Cellular data providers. MVNO service providers use network infrastructure from existing telecom or network companies at wholesale rates. Therefore, they have easy access to internet services at an affordable cost.

Currently, there are numerous MVNO service providers in the market. However, in this article, we are going to talk about Mint Mobile and Google Fi. We will make a depth comparison of Mint vs. Google FI so that you don’t have to research these network providers.

Mint Mobile Vs. Google Fi comparison

As of now, I am sure you know what Mint Mobile and Google Fi are. Now, in this section, we will compare their features’ differences in detail. This will give you clear pictures of both the service providers.

Google Fi vs. Mint mobile: Pricing and plans comparison

Google Fi

First, let’s talk about the plans for Google Fi. Unlike other MVNO service providers, Google Fi has few service plans. Here are the lists of plans that Google Fi provides.

  1. Simply Unlimited($50)
  2. Unlimited plus($65)
  3. Flexible($20)

These are the plans offered by Google Fi. The first plan, i.e., Simply Unlimited, is one of the largely subscribed plans. This plan provides you unlimited data, which is tethered after 35 GB. Similarly, you should consider unlimited plus plans if you are a heavy user. The plan comes with unlimited data (Tethered after 100 GB), unlimited calls, and SMS. If you rarely use the internet from MVNO, then you can consider Flexible plans. In this plan, you will only pay for the service that you’ve consumed.

Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile has fair pricing on its plans. Currently, they have four different data plans 4 GB, 10 GB, 15 GB, and Unlimited. All these plans have a validity of one month. Everything is the same on these plans: speed, features, and the network, besides data allowance. Here we have breakdown these plans into three months, six months, and 12 months.

  1. 4 GB: Three months $45, Six months $60, and Twelve months $75.
  2. 10 GB: Three months $60, Six months $75, and Twelve months $90.
  3. 15 GB: Three months $75, Six months $90, and Twelve months $105.
  4. Unlimited: Three months $90, Six months $105, and Twelve months $120.

The above-discussed price may differ on a special day, including Black Friday sales, Christmas, or any other special day. From the above pricing, we can see that the prices of the plan are significantly lower when you subscribe for six or one years.

Google Fi vs. Mint: Coverage comparison

Google Fi

Google Fi uses T-Mobile and US cellular networks for the data, SMS, and Voice calls services. T-Mobile is the third-largest wireless network in the USA and North America. Therefore, if you are traveling to Canada, Mexico, or any country in North America, you will get full network coverage. They also provide roaming services in more than 200 countries. However, this is available only in Unlimited and Flexible plans.

Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile also uses T-Mobile infrastructure for all their SMS, Voice, and data services. Therefore, there’s no doubt if you are in the US, you will have good network coverage all across the US. However, they don’t provide roaming service on any of their plans. If you are traveling to another country, then you must subscribe to their roaming plans.

Mint vs. Google Fi: Speed comparison

Google Fi

The speed of Google Fi largely depends upon its network provider. Google Fi uses T-Mobile and U.S Cellular infrastructure for all their services. Both T-Mobile and U.S Cellular have combined average download speeds of 29.4 Mbps and latency of 49.8 ms.

Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile, on the other hand, only uses the T-Mobile network for its services. The average speed of T-Mobile is 26.1 Mbps, and the latency of 53.9 ms. Therefore, you can expect an average of 26 Mbps internet speed on all plans.

Conclusion

Both Google Fi and Mint mobile are renowned wireless network providers. In this article, Mint mobile vs. Google Fit, we can see that pricing-wise, Mint mobile has some affordable plans as compared to Google Fi. On the other hand, Google Fi has a bit higher pricing on their data plans, but they provide unlimited data in their plans that you won’t get in Mint mobile plans. If you can compromise a little over the features, you can consider Mint mobile. Otherwise, I suggest you go with Google Fi.
